A delightful new twist to an old pattern, in the story of a father who demanded that his youngest son, that raggle-taggle fellow who wasted time with music, prove that he could bring back three worthwhile things from a given span of time. His values proved to be quite different from his successful brothers, but when he brought back a penny, which a mother had given him for saving a baby's life, and the blessing of an old man, whom he'd saved from suicide, and the love of a girl, his wise father granted that he had fulfilled the goal. That in addition, he had learned some useful things, and found a way to earn a living in the winter time, added up to his choice of success.
