ONE MISTY MOISTY MORNING: Rhymes from Mother Goose by Mitchell Miller

ONE MISTY MOISTY MORNING: Rhymes from Mother Goose

By

Publisher: Farrar, Straus & Giroux

Misty indeed, sometimes almost imperceptible, Miller's black-and-white pictures interpret and extend 21 relatively unfamiliar traditional rhymes. The images are earthy ones of coal scuttles, turnips, rats, or swine, or hauntingly unearthy, as ""the moon in a fit."" The pictures too are both elusive and disturbingly corporeal, with the line between brutish man and pigtailed beast surreally tentative. Miller applies a fine and subtle control to his dreamlike imaginings.
