MOBIL TRAVEL GUIDE TO NEW ENGLAND & NEW YORK STATE

Second in the series (the first Mobil Travel Guide to the Southwest is being revised and up-dated after passing the 94,000 sales gigure)- this follows the same sort of pattern. The aim, one might guess, is gradually to provide a sectional guide along the lines of the classic Michelin Guide in France. It is primarily a rating of- in this case- some 2 thousand hotels, motels and restaurants, along with somewhat sporadic information about sightseeing drives and walks, landmarks and local history, special events, industrial tours, sports facilities, radio and TV stations, etc. There will be street maps of major cities. With the tourist season following soon on the publication date, this should prove a useful plus item in bookstores -- and a reference tool for the front desk in all public libraries. Heavy commercial promoting is planned. The arrangement is alphabetical by states, within that by cities. It will run to 400 pages. A spot examination of the proof sheets inevitably discloses some gaps and some questionable inclusions, but- as with any listings- the personal equation is an inevitable problem.
