KIRKUS REVIEW

When Wanda from next door gives Miss Patch, their favorite teacher, a Venus flytrap (""It's practically human,"" boasts Wanda), Pete is afraid that the plant will take the place of Mishmash, the big black dog he gave Miss Patch some volumes hack. And when Mishmash disappears at the same time that Venus gets sick (from overeating, diagnoses the plant doctor), both Pete and Wanda are certain that he's gone for good. Not so, of course--Mishmash has simply run away, in the throes of sibling rivalry, and all ends well when he returns and Venus, no longer teacher's pet, is relegated to a less prominent spot on the window sill with Miss Patch's other plants. Flyweight, but it's a snap to finish off.
