KIRKUS REVIEW

This biography of Sarah Siddons follows the publication in August of 1957 of another by Lillian de la Torre, The Actress, reported on p. 590. We feel that for a teen-aged audience the earlier version will have more appeal. This latter biography deals at greater length with her children, although it traverses the same main paths of her life story, of her family relationships with the recognized Kembles and her much-opposed marriage to William Siddons. The period flavor here is weak and there is little to suggest the vitality or magnetism which would have made her first lady of the theatre.
