Quite an amazing and very different doctor's story, of a Syrian boy who came to America, peddled his way to and through college and medical school and into practice. Oklahoma formed his background of work and he found a growing need for a hospital that would serve the farmers who could not afford the usual hospital set-up. So he established a cooperative hospital in Elk City and gave them assurance of well-trained doctors, preventive medicine within reason, assured income for the physicians and surgeons, and moderate cost for all. Here is a personal story of his fight against established medical practice -- and victory. An original piece of trail blazing, forcefully executed, forcefully recounted. Interesting reading -- and the perfect demonstration of the theories expounded in the Bernheim book on page 166.
