THE END OF OUR EXPLORING by Monica Furlong

THE END OF OUR EXPLORING

By

Pub Date: Sept. 1st, 1974
Publisher: Coward, McCann & Geoghegan

Slightly sophisticated inspirational writing, with witness by watered-down Carl Jung, Sophocles and Homer, the Holy Grail legend and the Gilgamesh epic, the mystic poetry of St. John of the Cross, the ""alternative society,"" George Harrison and the Maharishi, the I-Ching, yoga, Tarot, etc. The answer to our -- and that means the human race -- troubles is a renewal of the religious approach to life (""journey"" is the author's term). The focus is on individual self. help, perceiving and deciding for suffering and heroism. Furlong is decidedly pro sexuality and psychoanalysis, anti Christian formalism, for irony and tragedy, against romanticism and comedy. She rarely lapses into didacticism and can be credited with insight, sympathy and sincerity. If our children are shaving their heads and speaking in tongues, then why not this book?
