Another story about Hank Winton, whom we met as ""Smoke Chaser"" in a previous book. This is his second year's training as fire fighter in the U.S. Forestry Service, and it finds him as a smoke jumper in the parachute division. A really exciting presentation of the tough training a boy must take to achieve this end will thrill boys interested in the subject. Factually the book is sound; the characterization is good; the plot seems thin. There's the keen competition, the playing of personalities against each other, to the end of developing team work, there are two good fights, there's a Senate investigation, and there's the climax in a big fire. All in all, the career aspects outweigh the fictional, but the story carries the reader along. Montana locale.
