Hank Winton, a senator's son, joins the forest ranger school, The 19-year old here spends an exciting, informative though sometimes incredible period before he can satisfy his burning ambition to be a ranger. He is assigned the worst watch tower; he proves he has what it takes; against unbelievable odds he attains the coveted rank. The book does a good job of glamorizing the job, without making it seem less exciting or important than it is. Cooperation is stressed as a vital factor in a ranger's life. Unfortunately, Hank remains a somewhat wooden figure- in a good adventure tale.
