HENRY SLOANE COFFIN

The life, ministry, and church leadership of one of the principal Protestant churchmn and educators of the first half of the 20th century is recorded here by the minister-ritus of Central Presbyterian Church, Montclair, N.J., and long-standing friend and colleague of Henry Slon Coffin. His personal religious experience and growth, his outstanding ministry as pastor and preacher for twenty years in the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, his great contributions to theological education as president and professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, his participation and leadership in the theological controversies of the earlier part of this century, in ecumenical , in social causes, and in civic and national political events, are narrated with restrained admiration and just estimate. The book will be eagerly received by the large number of persons who knew Dr. Coffin through the years of his ministry and leadership, but also by a wide audience of others to whom this book gives a portrait of one of the great religious leaders of our time.
