A difficult book to place -- possibly the market for FATHER MALACHY'S MIRACLE is the audience for this (even more than for the Sitwell book, reviewed on Page 23), though there is none of the humor and gentle satire of either of the other books in this. The study of an earnest and sincere young priest, who tried to demonstrate the fact of universal love and brotherhood and charity, through befriending two prostitutes and who found that the society in which he moved would not credit his motives nor countenance his methods. There is nothing in the presentation of the priest's part in the tragic little drama that will offend Roman Catholics; but the implied and demonstrated reflection on the Christian spirit may step on some toes.
