ARTHUR TWINING HADLEY

The biography of the noted Yale alumnus, professor and long-time president (1899-1921) as written by his eldest son, this traces Hadley's life from his earliest antecedents to his childhood, his student days at Yale, his return there as a tutor. Discouraged by lack of progress, Hadley left Yale to write, to serve on the State Labor Commission, but eventually returned as a full-time teacher, became president in 1899. Described here are all the academic, financial and physical changes he effected at Yale, the famous Colby Club, his trips abroad, his family life, his books and lectures, in what is a satisfactory memorial for a great Yale President- largely for native sons.
