KIRKUS REVIEW

The British scholar and Eton provost who died in 1936 wrote a kind of brief chiller now considered classic. The weather is usually late December, the specters malevolent and full of dreadful surprises, and the victims upper caste until they're pulled under. A fat volume, and there's one titled ""The Haunted Doll House"" that's a dilly.
