WHOM GOD HATH JOINED ASUNDER

The presence, opinions (some engaged dissent) and weathered observations of Mrs. Kemper Campbell first appeared in Here I Raise Mine Ebenezer (1963) and are here continued in a number of cautionary tales about marriages, divorces, unwed mothers, unclaimed children. Now over eighty, she was for many years a lawyer, an assistant D.A. as well as a wife in the Los Angeles area. There are all kinds of small stories--the woman who blackmailed three men into supporting the child she adopted; or epigrammatic summations--a ""beautiful woman brings out the worst in men""--and Mrs. Campbell comes to justice, a little like Portia, even more like Ann Landers. It's really for that kind of readership--curiosity along with a little corrective commonsense.
