KIRKUS REVIEW

One of our most original modern poets has written what might be called an ode in sixteen stanzas, dedicated to the unquenchable spirit of America, symbolized in Wake Island. High tribute to the gallant handful who made its defense against impossible odds a symbol of what we are fighting for: ""We know the world is one: we name it Freedom"". Too esoteric, perhaps, to reach the mass of readers.
