VALENTINE POEMS

The well-known anthologist has provided another good collection of holiday-related verse in a picture-book edition. Sentimental, comic, serious, and traditional rhymes are pulled together in a slim. illustrated volume ready for the most poetry-conscious day of the year. Many fine poets are represented, including Shakespeare, David McCord, X.J. Kennedy, Ian Serraillier and Livingston herself. There is even a rebus, good for homemade cards. In amusing full-page and double-spread drawings, whimsical animals, from mice to octopi, are shown in scenes of friendship, courtship and marriage to match the tone of the verses. This appealing collection will be useful for displays and for filling the insatiable demand for Valentine verses each February.
