Shakespeare called it ""The little O, the earth."" This loving tribute in paint and poetry is a symphony of circles. Moving from distant space to more intimate panoramas of mountains, forest, sea, canyons, and even cavern and ocean floor, the series ends with earth eclipsing the sun, viewed again from space. Fisher's stately paintings, powerful in their concentration on elementary form and total lack of detail, have enough variety and color to echo the drama of the earth itself. Livingston's five-line stanzas, as formal as sonnets, are pungent and compact, making effective use of repeated sounds and delicately varying cadence; tightly organized, each seems a circle in itself. Even more effective than this team's fine Sky Songs and Sea Songs.
