JUNGLE OIL

By

Publisher: Coward-McCann

Venezuela and its people provide an excellent social studies example of the constant search and struggle for the earth's resources. A parallel is drawn in this exciting book between the early explorers seeking Eldorado, and today's quests for natural resources. After 1910 the rising popularity of the automobile caused millions of dollars to be spent in a world-wide search for oil. Jungles and savages lay between the searchers and their goal in Venezuela. With its discovery millions of barrels were shipped out but it did the citizens little good until the death of corrupt Gomez in 1935. This excellent approach to the web of politics, geography and resources has real treasure hunt suspense.
