ALEXANDER I by N. Sementowski-Kurilo

Email this review

A biography of Alexander the First of Russia written by a Russian in semi-fictionalized manner, though the book is based on extensive research and the author keeps his facts well in hand. The emphasis is on Alexander's political beliefs, on his firm conviction that ""light comes from the East"" and that Russia had more to gain from the Orient than through westernization. The author shows how Alexander was one of the first great Russian monarchs and gives his life historical as well as personal significance.
