KIRKUS REVIEW

Lyman takes somewhat more time than other chroniclers in this series to cover trade, education, religion and other social factors. Unfortunately, considering the relatively substantial treatment, Lyman's syntax is often awkward and readers of the compressed historical narrative may be confused, for example, as to why a man from Antwerp was responsible for planning the first Swedish settlement of the colony or what sort of ""pact"" substituted for boycott agreements among pre-revolutionary merchants there. Problematical.
