CARLOTA: American Express

This is a sympathetic yet unbiased presentation of the lives of Maximillian and Carlota, romantic and ill-starred, tragic couple. The court life of Europe, quarrels and intrigues, as background for the lives of these two vain but charming people, are well pictured. A distant nation is treated as a plum for good children, with no consideration of that country's welfare. Not an important piece of literature but will be useful and interesting in combination with some other recent books on Mexico.
