Carlson (My Best Friend Moved Away, p. 495, etc.) explores the joys of anytime, anywhere hugs in her latest feel-good tale. The simple drawings of a family of pigs and friends are full of vibrant colors, making this an eye-catching look at some of the wonderful things a hug can do. Every three pages, another kind of hug is introduced in a “guess what type of hug I am” format. The answer is illustrated on the third page, accompanied by a different color text naming the hug. All of this leads to the big finale, a five-page introduction to the “Anytime, Anywhere, I Love You Hug.” From “Good Morning Hugs” to “I’m Sorry Hugs,” this simple yet fun inventory will encourage young readers to discover their own types of hugs and the power they can have in their lives. Sweet and colorful, with its obvious read-along activity, this will appeal to anyone in need of a hug, whether they know it or not. (Picture book. 3-5)
