A sequel to Hotel in Spain, which I thought one of the most enchanting -- and most sadly neglected -- books of 1938. Do see if you can't make a plus sale of the earlier volume with this one, and you will find your customers appreciative...The Johnstones escaped from Fleet Street (London) to a dream Mediterranean cliff town in Spain, and launched the inn they had imagined. The materialization of their dream is told in the first book, and at its close, the civil war had begun, but Tossa was untouched....I watched for news of Tossa as the war centered around Barcelona. It had a personal meaning for me, because of the Johnstones. Now comes their second story, Hotel in Flight. Gradually they found there was reality to this war, in spite of its opera bouffe elements, in spite of the characteristic Spanish ineffectualness. They undertook to run the inn as a colony for children. They took the hurdles with humor and understanding. And eventually they moved the children and escaped two days before Tossa fell. Read the book for yourself -- and find the right customers. They must be there.
