Announcing a new title in the P-II Junior Research series: The story of 11-year-old Makema and his family is primarily descriptive of the customs of the Indians of the rain forests of Brazil. The main emphasis is upon the rituals pertaining to Makema's entrance to manhood, but the impact has been marred by the tone of the text, which, being entirely in the present tense, is unnecessarily puerile. The wood-block prints, which are by the author, are quite effective.
