HYSTERECTOMY: A Complete, Up-to-Date Guide to Everything About It and Why It May Be Needed

The only popular book exclusively devoted to the hysterectomy, this is 100% reassuring and downplays all of the dubious aspects--whether as a gratuitous elective imposed by doctors on women, or a destroyer of their femininity as per Maude's famous remark to Walter, ""Good Lord, we're going to have matching mustaches!"" The primary justification for this procedure is fibroids; the second most common cause endometriosis; both conditions require watching and waiting. However, cervical or endometrial cancer makes the hysterectomy mandatory; sometimes it's partial and if total, there's always estrogen replacement (which Nugent gives a clean bill although recent evidence has again suggested its carcinogenic dangers). There are a few case histories, long rather than short; a full account of the operation and its aftermath; a dismissal of its possible effects on your weight or sex life or premature aging. Simply, clearly stated--a good book to have in your hand particularly if it needs holding.
