This $1.50 worth of information may well prove as essential an investment for the European traveler as is the Fielding currency guide. While not actually a new idea, it is surely the most comprehensive and effective guide for the shopper that I have seen. It is based on ten years' experience, on visiting some 1700 establishments in 21 countries, on the selection of 70 prestige establishments, and an additional 305 lesser known places where top quality, fair prices and guarantees of goods can be depended on. A few useful items such as shopping hours, scheduling time for made-to-order items, avoidance of use of guides when shopping, guarantees of delivery if shipping, methods of shipping, warnings on individual taxes and ways to avoid them by shipping to boat or plane, and so on make this a sound basic book. Country by country- alphabetically arranged- is presented with the merchandise characteristic and vital to that country, places to purchase each type of goods, something of scale and range of prices, and emphasis on quality. Inevitably one seeks out known dealers in attempting to characterize and judge the application to one's own experience. This book rated well with what I found to be true in the places where I'd made successful purchases.
