WILD WILD SUNFLOWER CHILD ANNA

A pretty little black girl in a yellow dress takes delight in a summer garden. Her enjoyment is shared with us in a flee verse poem describing Anna climbing trees, picking and eating raspberries, and playing with the frogs and flowers in the garden. Carlstrom's rhythms are easy to listen to, the feelings described are easy to understand. Pinkney follows the theme of sunflowers by filling the pictures with yellow--Anna's dress, flowers, butterflies, the sun. The garden is full of different species, but each text page has a strip of sunflowers to maintain continuity. Not an important book, but it will be welcomed by librarians with programs for young children and by preschool teachers.
