KIRKUS REVIEW

In 1934 Four Generations gave Naomi Jacob a definite place in the chronicle novelist group. This book deals with the same family, the early history of the Gollantz clan and the story of how old Fernando's business was taken from him and drained, until his son, Emmanuel, broke all ties and migrated to England, there to salvage the family fortunes. Paris, Vienna, London in the late 1800's. A good family chronicle -- without the brilliance and the madness of the stories of the Rakonitz tribe, but with decided appeal to those who look kindly on novels of Jewish loyalty, honesty and relations to the world at odds with them.
