THE LOADED STICK

Again a background of a Yorkshire farm, which seems to have displaced southern England in the hearts of her novelists. Very different type of book from her Four Generations, this story of the long course of retribution through the span of three generations, of Mary Ellen, who won her husband by trickery; of Jasper, who won his gypsy wife in the same way; of their children. Not as fine a book as the earlier one. Sell to the Phillpotts' audience.
