De Shootinest Gant'man, title story of a previous collection, is an American sporting classic. This new collection strikes a high level, but it seems to me that nothing quite touches that peak. There is more of shooting than of fishing; there is shooting over dogs, with dog stories and good ones, an integral part of the whole; there is shooting in duck blinds, in our Southern marshes; there is quail shooting, with some very pertinent data on the fine points of where and how. Definitely a book for last audience for which the Negley Farson is about the only current contribution. Nesh Buckingham writes from a richer experience than perhaps any other gentleman-sportsman-writer today.
