An autobiography of years as special ""newsmaker"" for Hearst, against a background of his childhood in the Brooklyn Jewish quarter, and an expose of the city's milk supply and bucketshops. The angle throughout is political -- with Hearst and against existing government -- and the investigations recounted show how many in office are implicated. Many anecdotes of Jimmy Walker, Rothstein, General Vanderbilt, Woodrow Wilson, etc., besides many of the Hearst staff. Interesting material on how news stories are made. Good memoir of the muckraking school, smoothly told. Market chiefly New York and the political market, and those who like the inside story of journalism.
