JAKY OR DODO? by Natalie Savage Carlson

Email this review

A mildly French-flavored soufflÉ, not quite as light as it should be, about an independent Montmartre corniaud (or mongrel) who is claimed by two ""owners,"" each unaware of the other's existence. When a mongrel dog show is announced in the papers, restaurateur/chef Boffu enters his Dodo; and little Pierre, who had planned to enter his Jaky but couldn't find him, arrives in time to see him win. But the prizes aren't what they had seemed; Dodo (now housebound at the restaurant) suffers a sickness of the spirit; and M. Boffu is chagrined that his fine cooking is rejected--until Pierre shows up with advice and both owners agree magnanimously to share the pet as they had before. Comme Çi, comme Ça.
