Under one of the Seine's bridges, lives Armand, the tramp. He is perfectly happy there and he is perfectly happy being a tramp, at least so he thinks. He knows where to look for free food and he knows what to avoid: responsibility, commitments, and most of all, children,- ""little starlings"", who are the baited trap of responsibility. But the ""starlings"" nest under Armand's bridge:-three little children and their proud but impoverished mother. In short order Armand is a reformed man, a working member of Paris society, and the adopted grandpa of the starling brood. Illustrated by Garth Williams, the sentimental adventures of Armand will probably illicit many tender smiles from those readers to whom Natalie Bavage Carlson's books with a French accent, are favorites.
