A TREASURY OF JEWISH HUMOR

A valuable reference book- and one that should have wider application than the scholarly value. The extent of its use will depend so largely on the type of subject index, topical index, etc. that it reaches only the halfway mark to report on the scope, the variety, the originality of inclusion. There are short stories-anecdotes- explanations of Jewish folk sayings, expressions, conventions -- there are parodies -- epigrams -- bits of wisdom-jokes. It is a collection that speakers could use to great advantage. It would be helpful to people whose own background had not provided understanding and sympathy with Jews, particularly at the working class, trade and industrial levels. It contradicts, without deliberately undertaking to do so, many fallacies. And much of it is exceedingly good reading.
