THE LIVES OF MY CAT ALFRED

Alfred likes dogs and resents the human notion that cats ""pass through life CHILLY as an iceberg in the green sea."" Alfred, who poses for Evaline Ness beside his dish of fine shrimp and vanilla ice cream, is clearly a prince, so it's doubly disappointing that this classy and responsive cat is given nothing to do except act out his owner's daydreams--""It wouldn't surprise me/ If you rode with Paul Revere. . . It wouldn't surprise me/ If you stepped that step with Neil Armstrong."" On the other hand he's so elegantly turned out in cinnamon and brown that you have to salute him with an admiring purr.
