Claiming ""outstanding results"" from his ""Emotional Maintenance 3-Day Crash Program"" and ""Lifelong Maintenance Regimen""--though his abbreviated research with 118 subjects was completed only 8 months ago--psychologist Nathaniel Lande contends that depression can be prevented through proper diet and exercise, which stimulate the brain neurotransmitters that combat depression. His approach borrows unabashedly from most of the popular (and pop) therapies, with particular attention to insight therapy and behavior modification. Thus readers are urged to restrict themselves to a planned-to-the-minute regimen for three days--a regimen which includes inhaling pure oxygen for at least six minutes a day, downing brewer's yeast and yogurt, contemplating the true meaning of such words as ""feel"" and ""explore, and using a whistle to condition away any ""negative"" thoughts (we are even encouraged to take our whistles with us to concerts and movies). Not for the faint of heart, or indeed for the strong of mind.
