BASIS FOR PEACE IN THE PACIFIC

Author of Must We Fight in Asia, 1935, expert on the Far East, surveys events preceding our war today, and the responsibilities we face in handling the problems of the future. With the need to crush Japan, follows the issue of making China independent, and detailed explanation of each of these points indicates possible courses to be taken, the results that will ensue, and the importance in worldwide developments. All this is backgrounded by the antecedents of today's conflict, the European mistakes that should act as a guide to the problems in the Far East, and the comparison of the Japanese and German parallels. It emphasizes America's special responsibility in preventing future wars, and establishing a basis for enduring peace, China's place in prolonging the ""life of the existing economic system until we have found a remedy for its ills"" and the international economic and political aspects of plans for the future . Controversial it may be, but explanatory material for far thinking.
