KIRKUS REVIEW

In a class full of animals--rabbit, cat, elephant, snake--no one pays attention to quiet Rufus (who seems to be a little bear). Then Rufus accidentally spills his worm chowder on Zelda, another pupil, and the attention and cheers he gets from the others for his ""prank"" inspire his rapid transformation into the terror of the school. One day when everyone is competitively showing off for a new girl, Rufus almost goes too far; but his heroic efforts to save the day at last earn him attention and praise for right behavior. The examples and results of Rufus' mischief are frenetic enough to keep this rampaging along, although the pictures' standard comix-style commotion keep Rufus out of the Rotten Ralph class.
