Cheerful anecdotes in the life of a painter's family who move from New Mexico to a big housing development outside New York City, these tell about seven year old Sandy's adjustments to city life. Among Sandy's doings- making new friends, discovering about incinerators and laundry machines, going to the Central Park Zoo- and the museum- there are a couple of things we are asked to take on too much faith- that his parents moved only for Sandy's good, and that Sandy keeps running up and down 17 flights of stairs from fright of the elevator. For the rest, it is pleasant adventuring and from the sale of Mr. Smith's abstract paintings we detect a nicely enlightened view of modern art.
