WHALE HUNT: The Narrative of a Voyage

This is the recently discovered journal of a four-year-long whaling trip- taken in 1849-53, as kept by a 16-year old whaler. His memory was acute and vivid, as he recalls in considerable detail the voyage of the Charles W. Morgan, the famous New Bedford whaler now in the Marine Museum in Mystic. Haley was a harpooner; the voyage took them to the South Pacific; he got his first whale at 17. Hits and misses, narrow escapes, shore leave, friendly and hostile natives, tall tales of authentic whaling and sea lore make this good for the adventure as well as the research market.
