The setting is The Mague, under Nazi occupation, and three children, Gerrit, 14, Adri, 12, and Bran, 9, learn to be patriots of the Underground. The author was born in The Mague, the story is authentic in details, and the data on treatment of the Jews, constant surveillance, spice in every home, etc. are drawn from the record. One sees the Dutch using every little chance to infur their captors and when not doing that, ignoring them. The story centers chiefly around Bran, fun-loving and impetuous, and the sympathetic story of how he and his family help a little Jewish girl escape to England. A good picture of another nation at war.
