KIRKUS REVIEW

I found this stimulating reading, a challenge to one's own vague impressions of Emerson's contribution to modern thought. A thoughtful and creative piece of work, taking Emerson, as he might have applied himself to the problems of today, and reaching his point by actually quoting from Emerson, in terms so apt that it is almost incredible that he could have written them two generations ago. One forms a definite working philosophy, with Emerson as springboard. And it's a fascinating process. Good material for classes in American literature, for anyone interested in philosophical, religious, economic concepts.
