A story of assimilation, in which Jim, 20-year old Cornishman, comes to Northern Michigan with four fellow countrymen, and there faces the problems of a new world. His intelligence sharpened, his mind and eyes newly awakened, spurred on by the need to learn to read and write so as to dispense with a third party in corresponding with his wife, gradually takes the hurdles with the help of new friends and old-and sends for his wife and new son. Serious, substantial, revealing picture of the problems of the immigrant. Market somewhat curtailed by Cornish dialect.
