HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOE DOG

Moe may be a dog, but he's certainly lionized on his birthday. From the moment he wakes up and sees a huge ""H"" at the foot of his bed, he's pampered, given food, clothes, a crown and other gifts by a succession of cheerful letters. When ""A"" and ""Y"" finally arrive, all gather out in the yard for a fine party. The text runs to two or three lines per page under pictures that glow with color but don't have much personality. With his small, rounded ears, Moe could just as easily be some sort of popeyed monkey, and the letters are Gumby-like sans-serifs with arms and rudimentary faces attached. A simple, loud story with appropriately simple, loud (if rather surreal) illustrations.
