PIERRE OF THE ISLAND

Two To Get Ready (1953) was a good grass roots story of the Iowa prairie. Now the author writes of Quebec city today and in the same homey vein, captures in these episodes about the Repos family, young Pierre's nostalgia after his family moves to the city from their Isle d'Orleans farm. From the first chapter- the leave taking- Pierre is terribly homesick in Quebec, but gradually finds new interests- as his father gets a horse and buggy to drive, as he learns about the city, starts to school and makes friends with an artist, until a visit to the Island finally convinces him Quebec is home.
