AIDS

A brief, heavily illustrated survey that will attract fledgling report-writers and less practiced readers. The book is designed in the familiar Gloucester Press format, with a different topic on each page-spread and plenty of colored pictures: the latter include fillers, portraits of scientists, hard-hitting photos of AIDS sufferers, and an occasional diagram or painting. Information is presented clearly, simply and often; text, sidebars and photo captions go over the same material, and technical terms are kept to a minimum. The author expresses some opinions--he's opposed to compulsory testing--describes how AIDS is spread and not spread, and looks at the directions both social and medical campaigns have taken in battling the disease. Brief index, no bibliography. This is sturdily bound, and makes a good bridge between pamphlet material and more detailed studies, such as Leveit's AIDS: In Search of a Killer).
