ROCK FROM THE BEGINNING by Nik Cohn

ROCK FROM THE BEGINNING

In the beginning was the beat and it came into its own with Bill Haley whose Comets soared until the Pelvis arrived to drive America's little women into ""mainline sexual fantasy."" This is a very personal rehash of all that has happened since by an author who considers Elvis Mr. Super Sound and regards the Beatles as a passing fancy. The dedicated will find some interesting snaps here even if they probably won't agree with the author's critical judgments. For instance there's a great vision of Phil Spector juicing up the amps to full blast to create the ear-splitting ""Spectorsound"" that will make him a young millionaire. And there's notes on everyone from ""computerized"" Fabian to jumping James Brown. The author hopes that rock will eventually climb down from it's psychedelic cloud (close The Doors) and get back to ""what rock was about in 1956.... AWOPBOPALOOBOP ALOPBAMBOOM."" Are you ready?
