Obviously a picnic book Which sells for $15.00 does not deal with ham on rye and those of us who are forced to picnic amid the fly-humming bowers of interstate parkways or off a neighbor's beach blanket had best stick to the chicken and hard boiled eggs. However, for the romantically inclined, with gourmet purse and inclinations, this is a spectacular 'and heady collection of menus, recipes, and amusing banter with recollections of picnics past: Picnic a deux in a graveyard on the Rhone Valley; a boat-launching picnic in St. James; a Tailgate Picnic in New Mexico. Uh huh. The food is glorious and Mrs. Hazelton, a cookbook veteran, is sure and imaginative. One does wish, however, that she followed more exactly her introductory confession that she hates to cook outdoors. There are those who view ""heating up"" in the same category as cooking. Withal this is a very handsome book for those who want to ""do it right.
