Kalb and Viscott's group counseling session ranges from everyday etiquette (don't borrow without returning; don't brag all the time) to instant self-analysis (make lists of wishes, happy and unhappy memories, etc.) to benign, commonsense advice about parental divorce, feelings, making friends and finding yourself. Though it's unlikely that those who ""don't try because they're afraid to fail"" can be straightened out by the simple announcement that ""if you don't really try, you don't find out if you'd really like or be good at something,"" they and other self-doubters will at least be assured that they are not alone--which is more than they'll get from Stein's Good and Bad Feelings (p. 401, J-135).
