THE SAN FRANCISCANS

Report repeated from the January 1st bulletin, when scheduled for earlier publication, as follows: ""This covers less ground than the preceding California Street and concentrates on the story of Laura Yarnum, the young and attractive widow of a great San Francisco banking magnate, who falls in love with the man she has every reason to hate. Gavin Courtney, a shanty Irish lawyer on the way up, sues the Yarnum family bank on a clever technicality. He also falls in love with Laura who apparently loathes him and the day he wins the case they become lovers. But since both pride themselves on their business acumen, they are unable to handle their personal relationship with equal finesse... The legal and financial transactions are interesting and lend weight to the story, but the heroine is remarkably unappealing, the other characters are not real, and at best it is calculated- even contrived - to please this writer's readymade readership.
